The Buddha Blue

Ancient stones require a careful set of considerations for identification given their rarity. There is a challenge to documenting a gem’s background such as provenance and ‘fashioning age’. One such stone that had been in a family for decades was submitted to AGL for identification and under the hopes that an age would be able to be determined.

Known as The Buddha Blue, it weighs 15.73 cts and displays a beautiful and slightly violetish blue color. It exhibits an unusual cut— a freeform cabochon, with a grooved and dimpled dome. Lending to it’s beauty is its high degree of transparency, the stone is virtually eye clean. The findings from the examination are detailed below.
