Coated Tanzanite Hits the Market

In 2008, the first tanzanites exhibiting a coating to augment their color were discovered. These tanzanites on the right were part of a group of stones that were identified as having a thin coating layer to artificially improve their color. Sizes range from 0.29 to 4.22 ct.

The findings were published at the World of Gems Conference in the Autumn of 2008.
