Pyrite and Chromite Inclusion Assemblage in Emerald

Pyrite crystals and abundant chromite grains are prominent in this emerald, consistent with those from Santa Terezhinha de Goias in Brazil. Photomicrographs by R. Zellagui in darkfield illumination; magnified 9x.

This 0.87 ct emerald caught our attention due to the presence of abundant black inclusions. Microscopic observation revealed numerous mineral inclusions, some of which appeared to be pyrite.
