AGL Identifies Irradiated Colombian Emeralds

AGL examined emeralds that were identified as having been irradiated. This type of treatment is infrequently seen.

In addition to being irradiated, these emeralds had been clarity enhanced by filling open fissures with polymer-type resin. Shown to the left is the characteristic orange flash seen along a filled fissure.
